Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde (2014)

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Giulietta is now available in a new Quadrifoglio Verde version, a true expression of Alfa Romeo's racing DNA. With respect to the other versions in this range, the new Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde is characterised by a decisive look and a strong personality. In addition, it features the exclusive engine inherited from the Alfa Romeo 4C supercar: the new 240 HP direct injection 1750 Turbo Petrol aluminium-block engine combined with a next generation 6-speed twin dry clutch 'Alfa TCT'.
To mark the launch, Alfa Romeo will present a special 'Launch Edition' Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde in a limited edition featuring specific components such as: carbon spoilers and mirror fairings, front and rear sports DAMs, side skirts and 18" alloy wheels with five holes and glossy Antracite finish. The Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde 'Launch Edition' will be available in Alfa Red or in Competizione Red (triple coat) in addition to the exclusive matt Magnesio Grey livery.
Exterior
Outside, the car is distinguished by the typical ride of a true sports car and by the legendary 'Quadrifoglio Verde' emblem located on the side panel, near the direction indicator. Furthermore, a glossy Antracite finish for mirror fairings, front grille, door handles and fog light frames distinguishes even further the new Quadrifoglio Verde within the Giulietta range.

The new car's aggressive look is highlighted by specific large exhaust tailpipes and 17" or 18" alloy rims that reveal the braking system 'by Brembo' with 4-piston fixed red brake callipers and front discs oversized by 320 millimetres.
Interiors
Attention was paid to details and high quality materials were chosen to represent the ultimate expression of Italian style. In particular, the black sports arrangement stands out and is further enhanced by the new instrument panel with special QV logo and by the new leather and Alcantara trim wraparound sports seats with built-in head restraints. The new moulded steering wheel with leather trim and contrasting white (or red) stitching is supplied as standard. The gear lever boot and the parking brake lever are leather coated with white and green (or red) stitching. Aluminium sport pedals, specific kick plate with QV logo, black roof lining and special mats complete the new version's interiors.
Engine and transmission
After its introduction on the Alfa Romeo 4C, the range's top performing engine is now fitted on the new Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde: the new direct injection 1750 Turbo Petrol aluminium-block engine delivers 240 HP at 5750 rpm and has excellent specific torque and power values for its category, namely: 194 Nm/l and 137 HP/l. Extraordinary elasticity and sportiness are ensured by the 340 Nm max torque that remains stable in the 2000-4000 rpm range, but is already 80% available at only 1800 rpm.
The 240 HP direct injection 1750 Turbo Petrol engine implements an innovative aluminium block and specific intake and exhaust systems which have been optimised to enhance the sports appeal of the car even further. In addition, it boasts cutting-edge technical solutions including direct fuel injection, dual continuous variable valve timing, a turbocharger and the revolutionary scavenging control system which rules out any turbo lag.
The new 1750 Turbo Petrol engine is matched with the state-of-the-art 6-speed twin dry clutch 'Alfa TCT' in a combination made of automatic transmission practicality and sequential shift responsiveness. In detail, the transmission works in either all-automatic or sequential mode. The 'up and down' positions of the precise and ergonomic gear lever are managed manually by the driver, who can also choose to combine it with the shift paddles on the steering wheel. The car's character can be customised by the driver using the Alfa DNA driving selector to enhance its features of comfort, performance, safety and efficiency.
Another special feature of the 'Alfa TCT' fitted on Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde is the Launch Control system for managing starting from a standstill. Launch Control is activated by pressing the brake pedal while pushing the accelerator pedal all the way down and squeezing the paddle on the left of the steering wheel. As soon as you release the brake, the system automatically controls the gearbox, traction and power to maximise acceleration.
Performance
With this engine, the Giulietta's flagship can exceed 240 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 6.0 seconds, that is 8 tenths of a second less than the previous version with manual gearbox. These remarkable times can be obtained even by the least experienced drivers by using the Launch Control function. The driving emotion is further enhanced by the sound produced by both the new fuel intake unit - called 'QV Intake Engine Sound' - that enhances the low frequencies and the typical Alfa Romeo engine roar.
This impressive level of performance has been achieved with minimum impact on the environment: by implementing multiple injection control and advanced anti-friction and energy loss reduction systems, the emissions of the 'Quadrifoglio Verde' version meet the strict limits of Euro 6 standards. Furthermore, with respect to the previous Quadrifoglio Verde, the new Giulietta 1750 TBi 240HP TCT guarantees a significant reduction of CO2 emissions, dropping from 177 to 162 g/km.
The top-performance emblem is thus reinterpreted with a modern touch, combining the utmost driving pleasure with greater environmental awareness for an eco-conscious and sustainable sportiness.
Standard equipment and Infotainment
On the back of these exceptional dynamic qualities and performance/consumption ratio, Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio Verde comes with an unprecedented array of standard equipment. This is shown by: new leather and Alcantara trim wraparound sports seats, specific instrument with QV logo, moulded steering wheel with leather trim and white (or red) stitching, 'Quadrifoglio Verde' external logo, dark trim headlights, Privacy rear windows, racing suspensions, side skirts, braking system 'by Brembo', aluminium sports pedals, special kick plate with QV logo, special mats with the Quadrifoglio Verde logo and special glossy Antracite finish racing accents (door mirror fairings, door handles, front grille and fog light frames).

Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde (2014)

Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde

The new Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde is the compact cars' dynamic soul. It conquered those European customers who were sensitive to Italian style and to technical excellence aimed at providing driving satisfaction in total safety.
Exterior
The Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde is identified by a sporty look featuring a rear spoiler, a sports bumper with extractor beside the new burnished finish for mirror fairings, front grille, door handles, front and rear headlight frames and 17" alloy wheels with red brake callipers standing out. The all matt Magnesio Grey body colour for the MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde enhances this compact sports car's aggressive design and highlights the 'Quadrifoglio Verde' logo located under the side direction indicator.
Interior
The black interior respects the exterior style and at the same time features a long series of developments which underline this model's most sporty and dynamic spirit. This is highlighted by the new moulded leather steering wheel with contrasting white stitching, the new instruments with QV logo, the Competizione dashboard with 'carbon look' finish and the new special mats. Inside, black leather is used to cover the handbrake lever (with white stitching) and the gear lever boot (with white and green stitching).
Engine and transmission
The engine is the heart and at the same time the true strength of every Alfa Romeo model. And the new MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde is no exception. In terms of sports design and strong personality, the car introduces the new 1.4 MultiAir Turbo Petrol engine which, in combination with the next generation 6-speed double dry clutch 'Alfa TCT', develops a maximum power of 170 HP at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 2500 rpm (it increases to 250 Nm at 2500 rpm in Dynamic mode).
The pièce de résistance of this engine version is its outstanding weight/power ratio, which has always been one of the key factors behind the success of Alfa Romeo cars on the road and the race track.
A desire to be ahead of its time is encoded in the DNA of the Alfa Romeo MiTo and is confirmed by the new engine: after being the first car to offer the revolutionary MultiAir engine, it is now the first car in Italy to offer the next-generation Alfa TCT matched with the 135 HP 1.4 MultiAir Turbo engine (awarded Best New Engine of the Year 2011 by an international panel of experts) and Start&Stop system.
The heart of MultiAir is a new electro hydraulic valve management system that reduces fuel consumption by controlling air directly via the inlet valves (without using the throttle) and reduces polluting emissions too (via combustion control). As befits a flag-bearer for the downsizing concept, MultiAir is a versatile technology that is easily applied to all petrol engines. Examples include the new 105 HP 0.9 TwinAir engine that has been recently introduced on the new 2014 MiTo.
Performance
The Alfa Romeo MiTo's most sporty model offers excellent performance. It reaches a top speed of 219 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 7.3 seconds with reduced emissions and fuel consumption. In the combined cycle, these values are respectively 5.4 l/100 km and 124 g/km of CO2 emissions. With respect to the previous Quadrifoglio Verde, both CO2 emissions (-11%) and fuel consumption (-10%) are improved.
Not to mention the fact that Alfa Romeo power units are distinguished by their unmistakable Alfa Romeo sound that emphasises the unique nature of the car while complying fully with type approval constraints and environmental aspects.

  •
Acronym 4C
The Alfa Romeo 4C is inspired by the century-old tradition of Alfa Romeo and projects the brand's authentic values into the future: Italian style, performance and engineering excellence, offering maximum driving satisfaction in total safety. The "4C" name recalls Alfa Romeo's great sporting tradition: the acronyms 8C and 6C in the 1930s and 1940s distinguished racing and road cars fitted with powerful eight and six cylinder engines. The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C model's designation continues this tradition with the latest all-aluminum 1750 cc turbocharged direct injection four-cylinder engine.
A tradition of essential beauty and function
The inspiration for the all-new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C dates back to the 1967 33 Stradale, the homologated version of the racing Type 33, which is considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Like the 33 Stradale that combined extreme mechanical and functional requirements with undeniable Alfa Romeo style and performance - the 4C coupe shares its body forms and follows this performance tradition with an undoubtedly Italian-styled composite body "clothing," a state-of-the-art carbon fiber and aluminum structure, and a high-performance turbocharged engine.
With a purpose-built cockpit inspired by the legendary 1967 33 Stradale, entering the interior of the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C means entering a world derived from motorsport - only essential components for performance are integrated. Two composite-framed sport seats, thermoformed dashboard and exposed carbon fiber monocoque highlight the coupe's technological uniqueness. Furthermore, a driver-oriented cockpit with flat-bottom performance steering wheel with paddle-shift controls and aluminum pedals speak to the brand's racing spirit. Emphasizing the Alfa Romeo 4C's advanced technology and focus on lightweight technical solutions is a 7-inch full-color thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster that displays simple, high-impact graphics to keep the driver focused on the road, or track ahead.
Ultra-lightweight: carbon fiber, aluminum and composites structures
To create the ultra-lightweight architecture needed for maximum performance and dynamic efficiency, Alfa Romeo 4C engineers looked to Formula 1 and only the most advanced supercars for state-of-the-art materials. The result is a monocoque made entirely of carbon fiber that delivers extraordinary stiffness and strength. Attached to the Alfa Romeo 4C's exotic monocoque are front and rear cell structures, roof reinforcements and an engine-mounting frame made from lightweight aluminum.
Alfa Romeo engineers continued the use of state-of-the-art materials by creating the bodywork entirely of SMC (Sheet Molding Compound), a low-density, high-strength composite material that is 20 percent lighter and dimensionally more rigid than steel. Providing the ability to create complex shapes while saving weight by 20 percent compared to steel are PUR-RIM (injected polyurethane) fascias and rear spoiler. Engineers even optimized the Alfa Romeo 4C's windshield and side windows by using 10 percent thinner glass to reduce weight by up to 15 percent.
Finally, two sport seats feature a carbon fiber and fiberglass reinforced-composite structure to deliver the strength and seating position needed for performance driving.
Supercar performance, compact size
Thanks to Alfa Romeo 4C's advanced technological solutions and compact size, the coupe demonstrates its precision, agility and performance credentials with:
  • The 4C exudes proportions of exotic supercars, dimensions include:
    • Overall length: 157.5 inches (400 cm)
    • Overall width: 73.5 inches (186 cm)
    • Overall height: 46.6 inches (118 cm)
  • Top speed: 160 mph (257 km/h)
  • 0-to-60 mph: mid-4 second range
  • Coefficient of drag (Cd): 0.335
  • Lateral acceleration: >1.1 g
  • Maximum braking deceleration: > 1.25g
  • Dry weight: 2,315 lbs. (1,050 kg)
  • EPA curb weight: 2,465 lbs. (1,118 kg)
  • EPA curb weight-to-power: 10.4 lbs./horsepower (4.7 kg/horsepower)
High-tech 1750 Turbo engine and Alfa TCT pair for exceptional performance and drivability
The engine is the beating heart of any Alfa Romeo, and for the 4C, it beats to an all-new 1750 cc direct-injection 237 horsepower all aluminum engine. To ensure exceptional performance and drivability on the racetrack or city streets, this new engine features cutting-edge technical solutions, including direct-injection, intercooler, dual (intake and exhaust) continuous variable-valve timing (VVT), a camshaft with eight counterweights, and intake and exhaust systems optimized for Alfa Romeo 4C's mid-engine layout.
A new generation turbocharger features a pulse-converter exhaust manifold to exploit pressure waves and boost torque at low-engine speeds. A waste gate valve adjusts turbo pressure and improves the engine's efficiency. Advanced scavenging technology enables the Alfa Romeo 4C to maximize torque at low engine speeds and deliver more response to driver input by increasing combustion efficiency and turbine speed, all while eliminating turbo lag. As a result, torque delivery is instantaneous, with a peak of 258 ft.-lb. (350 Nm); 80 percent of which is available at only 1,700 rpm.
Teamed to the all-aluminum engine is a paddle-shifting Alfa TCT twin-clutch transmission, which has been specifically tuned for the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C. With its uniquely calibrated software that adjusts with the Alfa DNA selector system, the Alfa TCT's gearshifts are designed to become most aggressive in the Dynamic and Race modes. The Alfa TCT system also integrates a "launch control" mode - delivering the utmost acceleration possible as soon as the driver releases the brake.
Innovative Alfa DNA selector
The all-new Alfa Romeo 4C features the brand's innovative Alfa DNA selector with "Race" mode - enabling the driver to optimize the right level of performance through four modes. With a touch of the Alfa DNA selector, the character of the Alfa Romeo 4C can be changed to (in order of increasing capability):
  • All-weather - designed to ensure maximum control under adverse weather conditions and enables gentler accelerator input and special engine and brake control logic to match road speed and prevent skidding
  • Natural - enables grand touring comfort and smooth drivability for the Alfa TCT gearbox
  • Dynamic - enables improved driving performance via a more aggressive powertrain calibration and less intrusive electronic stability control (ESC) setting
  • Race - is the most extreme performance mode, putting the driver in total control of the car under race conditions. ESC and anti-slip regulation (ASR) are deactivated to allow the driver to control traction through the accelerator pedal. The Alfa Romeo Electronic Q2 differential control system remains active for fast exits out of corners or bends.
    • In Race mode, launch control can be activated, allowing the Alfa Romeo 4C to deliver supercar-level 0-to-60 mph acceleration blasts in the mid-4 second range
For driving convenience in Dynamic, Natural or All-weather modes, the Alfa Romeo TCT gearbox can utilize an "auto" mode.
4C combines the best technical and manufacturing competencies of Alfa Romeo and Maserati
The very best technical and industrial expertise of the Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands were used to develop the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C. Teamwork between the two brands included the integration of the Alfa Romeo Style Center design with the well-known craftsmanship of the Maserati brand's Modena production plant. In addition, the Alfa Romeo 4C was boosted by the technological contributions of Italian suppliers, who are international leaders in manufacturing high-performance components.
This is a distinguishing trait of Alfa Romeo, a brand with a century of history that continues to be one of the most famous and popular ambassadors of Italian products around the world.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint (2015)

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

More distinctive style, thrilling performance and state-of-the art technology: the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint represents the true "Alfa Spirit", a masterly blend of values and content - according to the principles of "Lightness & Efficiency", "Italian Style", "Advanced Technology" and "Dynamics" - that make Alfa Romeo cars absolutely unique.
The resulting car is a 100% Alfa Romeo, able to offer "authentic sensations", breaking out of the realm of the necessary to that of emotion: from aesthetics to passion for refined technology and from the pleasure found behind a wheel to the expression of personality.
Italian Style: attention to detail and choice of high-quality materials
The new Giulietta Sprint comes with an exclusive sports "outfit" distinguished by the dedicated badge and some distinctive elements such as the rear bumper with sports extractor, oversized tailpipes and 17'' Sprint alloy wheel with 5 holes (18" on request). The exterior styling of the new version is completed by the tinted rear windows and glossy anthracite finishes on the front grille, handles, rear-view mirror fairings and fog light frames.
Attention was paid to details and high-quality materials were chosen to represent the ultimate expression of Italian style. In particular, the black sports trim stands out, enhanced by the fabric and Alcantara Sprint seats with red stitching and logo on the headrests. Another standard feature is the leather-covered steering wheel with red stitching, while the dashboard and door panels have a sophisticated, carbon-coloured finish.

The sporty character of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint is also expressed in the black roof lining and the velvet mats. And when you work with Italian Style, nothing is left to chance: this explains that inimitable personality that lets us instantly tell a car with an Alfa Romeo shield from all the others we come across on everyday roads.
"Lightness & Efficiency": rear sports bumper and side skirts
In order to improve the already excellent aerodynamic efficiency of the model, the new Sprint version offers a rear sports bumper with extractor and side skirts. Together with the rigid, light structure made using materials such as aluminium and high-strength steels as well as state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, they ensure excellent dynamic performance in perfect harmony with the winning combination of "lightness and efficiency".
"Advanced Technology": new 150 HP 1.4 MultiAir engine
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint sees the début of the new 150 HP 1.4 MultiAir Turbo Petrol, a powerful and reliable engine which is a superb expression of the new Sprint version's sporting spirit. With this equipment, the car can achieve a top speed of 201 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 in 8.2 seconds. Absolutely outstanding performance together with extremely limited consumption and emissions: suffice it to say that, in the combined cycle, the recorded figures are 5.7 l/100 km and 131 g/km of CO2 respectively (the adoption of ECO tyres, available depending on the market, permits a further reduction to 5.6 l/100 km and 129 g/km).
At the heart of MultiAir is a new electrohydraulic valve management system that allows a reduction in fuel consumption (by controlling air directly via the engine intake valves, without using the throttle) and harmful emissions (via combustion control). MultiAir is also a versatile technology that fittingly represents the concept of "downsizing" applied to the new generation of engines.
In addition to the brand new 150 HP 1.4 MultiAir Turbo Petrol, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint can be equipped with a further five engines: the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo Petrol 170 HP - with Alfa TCT twin clutch automatic transmission - and the 1.6 JTDM 105 HP, 2.0 JTDM 150 HP and 2.0 JTDM 175 HP turbo diesel engines, the latter also with Alfa TCT, as well as the 120 HP 1.4 Turbo LPG. An offer of power and technology that combines high-level performance with respect for the environment and limited running costs.
"Dynamics": the utmost driving pleasure
The Giulietta has assumed a place in the tradition of the best Alfa Romeo models, drawing on its heritage of dynamic performance, without compromising on efficiency and convenience in everyday use. The secret behind this performance is continuous technological research, which finds its utmost expression in the Giulietta. This is demonstrated by the "Compact" architecture - created with high-resistance materials which allowed the weight of the structure to be limited - in addition to the Dual Pinion active steering and the sophisticated suspension configurations (MacPherson at the front and the advanced Multilink at the rear).
Furthermore, driving satisfaction and comfort adapt to meet every customer's specific needs thanks to the Alfa DNA selector, a device that customises the vehicle's behaviour to suit different road conditions and driving styles. The new architecture of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta was designed to integrate the vehicle's different systems and exploit them to the full, thus emphasising the three set-up functions (Dynamic, Normal and All Weather) available through the Alfa DNA selector. The device, fitted as standard on the entire range, is designed to modify the operating parameters of the engine, gearbox, steering system and Q2 electronic differential, in addition to the behaviour logic of the ESC system.
Finally, the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint can also adopt the latest Alfa TCT twin dry clutch automatic transmission - combined with the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo Petrol 170 HP and 2.0 JTDM 175 HP engines - which ensures greater efficiency, driving comfort and sports feel than automatic transmissions with torque converter.
"Advanced Technology": class-leading safety
The new Giulietta Sprint is one of the safest cars in its category, which turns the tables for those who think that safety detracts from performance. In addition to the undisputed dynamic characteristics of the model, it features plenty of standard equipment, such as six airbags, ESP, three-point seat belts with double pretensioner, anti-whiplash system and third load line for excellent passenger compartment protection.
These are followed - again as standard - by certain systems which are unique in this category, such as Alfa DNA with electronic Q2 differential, the system which allows torque to be transferred to the outer wheel when cornering, to prevent understeer at the front, with benefits for the car in terms of traction, safety and driveability. And there's more: DST, which prompts drivers to correct their driving in the event of an emergency through impulses at the wheel. Finally, the Pre-fill system guarantees maximum promptness during emergency braking. All these features translate into an extremely high active and passive safety level. The Giulietta earned five stars in crash tests according to the stricter parameters introduced by Euro NCAP from its launch, scoring 97% for adult passenger protection, one of the highest scores in the category.
"Advanced Technology": the innovative Uconnect infotainment system
"Embedded" in the middle of the new Sprint's dashboard, above the DNA selector and the dual zone automatic climate control, is the innovative Uconnect multimedia device with 5" touchscreen and complete with Bluetooth connection for hands-free operation and streaming audio, Aux-in connector, USB port, voice commands, SMS reader and, in the 6.5'' version, satellite navigation with 3D bird's eye view maps, progressive route guidance and the 'One Step Voice Entry Destination' function for entering the required destination with voice commands, as well the DAB device, for listening to digital-quality radio.
Both systems have been developed in collaboration with first-class partners: Harman and Here Auto for Uconnect 6.5" and Continental for Uconnect 5".
In detail, the Uconnect system lets you access all the main functions, from the analogue and digital radio (DAB) - on request for the 5" version, standard on the 6.5" version - through to all the main multimedia resources (mediaplayer, iPod, iPhone, smartphone) which can be connected via USB port or Aux-in socket. The system also includes an advanced Bluetooth interface to access extra functions, such as phone call management or reading received SMS text messages via text-to-speech technology, innovative Audio Streaming system that reproduces music files and web radio stations directly from a smartphone in streaming via Bluetooth through the audio system.

Alfa Romeo Giulia (2016)

Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Giulia, the top-of-the-range model sporting the legendary Quadrifoglio badge, was introduced to the international press at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, near Milan.
It was a special event and a celebration of Alfa Romeo's over one century of history: in fact, today the brand celebrates its 105th year of auto making, a goal which it shares with a very select club of manufacturers, which is even smaller when considering the brand's worldwide sales successes and its racing victories.
A.L.F.A. (standing for 'Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili', which translates as 'Lombard Automobile Factory, Public Company' in English) was established on June 24, 1910. Today, on June 24, 2015, a new page of the brand which never ceases to surprise is being written by introducing a new model, a genuine manifesto which concentrates past, present and future and is one of the most brilliant examples of automobile excellence.
There could be no better venue for this splendid event within the event than the new Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese. The brand's 'home' will be opening its doors to the general public again on June 30. The renovated facility hosts Alfa Romeo's most famous and innovative creations. These cars have written some of the most important pages in automotive history and are, still today, sources of inspiration for young Alfa Romeo designers.
These include an elite team of engineers, designers and stylists known within FCA as the 'Skunks', a sobriquet used in industries in the USA to identify the best squads to whom the most delicate and technologically innovative missions are entrusted. Sharing a common love for Alfa Romeo and its unique concept of cars as 'mechanical creations' which transcend the realm of necessity to verge on that of the most authentic emotions and not just 'useful means of transport', the 'Skunks' have one goal: to create the Alfa Romeo of the future respecting the heritage resulting from the work and pride of thousands of people - engineers, factory workers and managers - who have taken turns in the factories, offices and on the race tracks.
The new Alfa Romeo logo
Alfa Romeo Giulia perfectly embodies the brand's new paradigm remaining loyal to its century-long tradition: not by chance, only who has a great past can face the challenges of the future. The respect for the brand's proud history is demonstrated also by the original badge - designed by Robilant Associati - that the new model will show to the world for the first time: the emblem has been renewed and modernised on the outside while, the distinctive shape and style elements which have made it an admired symbol the World over remain untouched.
'La meccanica delle emozioni'
Five are the elements which made Alfa Romeo one of the world's most desirable automotive brands: distinctive Italian design, state-of-the-art, innovative engines, perfect 50/50 weight distribution, unique technical solutions and the best weight-to-power ratio. These are the indispensable ingredients for creating an Alfa Romeo.
Just sitting in the new Alfa Romeo is like entering a new dimension which centers around the driver, firing emotions and the promise of exhilarating driving experiences. Merit goes to the sensitive steering, the responsive acceleration and the prompt shifting and braking. Additionally, rear or four-wheel drive is more than just a tribute to the most authentic roots of the Alfa Romeo legend: it is also a technical solution which offers high performance and astounding enjoyment.
In Alfa Romeo, this is all summed up by the words 'la meccanica delle emozioni'. This bold, distinctive pay-off will be publicised worldwide in Italian only to pay homage to the homeland where the legend was born over one century ago. Still today, the brand carries Italian-made pride on everyday roads, on the most famous race tracks and in the hearts of millions of enthusiasts in the four corners of the Earth.
Distinctive Italian design
An Alfa Romeo springs from the perfect balance of heritage, speed and beauty which makes it the highest expression of Italian style in the automotive world. The new Giulia is no exception because it encapsulates three particularities of Italian design: sense of proportions, simplicity and care for surface quality. This is the 'skin' that Alfa Romeo stylists have modelled with painstaking care on the mechanical parts.
In particular, the proportions are based on the technical architecture of the entire car: for Alfa Romeo the key elements were the 50/50 weight balance and rear wheel drive. In order to balance the weights perfectly, the engine and the mechanical parts are arranged between the two axles. This is why the Giulia has very short overhangs, a long bonnet and front wings, a retracted passenger compartment 'settled' on the drive wheels and muscular rear wings which visually mark the point where power is unleashed onto the road. All this translates into a very generous wheelbase - the longest in its category - but contained in one of the most compact bodies. These proportions draw the dynamic shape of an ellipsis in plan view. Furthermore, the rounded angles and the enveloping pillars convey momentum to the car creating a 'teardrop-shaped' profile which is reminiscent of the Giulietta Sprint, one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
A second aspect of the Italian style is 'simplicity' which enshrouds what is in fact the most complex creative processes in industry: designing a car. It is up to style to conceal the long, complex work behind a simple, natural line which enhances elegant shapes and sophisticated Italian taste. This approach permeates the entire history of Alfa Romeo expressed by means of clean, taut lines. For this reason, the new Alfa Romeo boasts a strong identity drawn in few simple strokes: a line gouged along the sides which marks the doors and envelops the handles and, naturally, the legendary trefoil nose, possibly the most famous and recognisable style element in automotive history.
Finally, Italian style is characterised by a high quality surface finish which means creating rich, harmonious reflections across the volumes. The end result is the new Giulia, a sculptured shape reminiscent of a big cat just about to pounce. The same inspiration is found inside the car. Everything is clean, essential and centers around the driver, such as the controls grouped on the small steering wheel designed to adapt to all driving styles. And more. The driver's position was 'cut' as a fabric with a diagonal tunnel, a slightly undulated dashboard and cleverly oriented instruments which convey the impression of a tailor-made suit with hand-crafted care and premium materials: carbon fibre, wood and fabrics are chosen for their visual and tactile pleasantness and assembled in such a way to make the human touch visible.
State-of-the-art, innovative engines
State-of-the-art, innovative engines are another characterising element of a genuine Alfa Romeo. For this reason, a unique engine in terms of technology and performance, destined to become the new benchmark of the brand, has been created for the Quadrifoglio version.
The six-cylinder turbo petrol tuned by engineers with Ferrari background delivers 510 HP and exhilarating performance: for instance, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds. Incidentally, despite the sensational power and torque output, the new engine is surprisingly fuel efficient and implements an electronically controlled cylinder deactivation system. Obviously, as all next-generation petrol and diesel engines, this six-cylinder is made entirely of aluminium to reduce weight particularly on the front axle of the car and make that genuinely Alfa Romeo sound.
Perfect weight distribution
A peculiarity of the new Giulia is the astute management of weights and materials to obtain a perfect 50/50 distribution across the two axles. This is fundamental to secure the typical Alfa Romeo driving satisfaction and reached by tweaking the layout and arranging the heavier elements in the most central position possible.
The suspensions are as essential for optimal ride as weight distribution. In particular, a multilink solution ensuring top performance, driving pleasure and comfort has been chosen for the rear axle. On the front, instead, a new double wishbone suspension with semi-virtual steering axis was developed to optimise the filtering effect and guarantee rapid, accurate steering. This Alfa Romeo exclusive keeps the constant caster trail on corners and can tackle high lateral accelerations as a result of the always perfect footprint. In any situation and at all speeds, driving Alfa Romeo Giulia with the most direct steering ratio available is natural and instinctive.
Innovative, exclusive technical solutions
As a further expression of the Alfa Romeo engineering culture, the design, the build and the choice of materials of the chassis and the suspensions is always perfect. As a consequence, it was decided that electronics should only be used to make the driving experience guaranteed by excellent basic mechanicals even more exhilarating.
This is demonstrated by the exclusive technical solutions present on the new car, like Torque Vectoring with a double clutch to allow the rear differential to control the torque delivery to each wheel separately. In this manner, power transmission to the road is improved also in low grip conditions. So, the driving is safe and fun without ever having to run up against an invasive stability control system. The Integrated Brake System - an innovative electromechanical system which combines stability control and a traditional servo brake for instantaneous brake response and consequent record-breaking stopping distances in addition to the all-important weight optimisation - is being introduced on the new Alfa Romeo.
Together with an excellent Cx, a perfect balance of forces on corners and downforce behaviour, the new model has Active Aero Splitter, a front system which actively manages downforce for higher performance and better grip even at high speed. These state-of-the-art systems are all governed by Chassis Domain Control, the 'brains' of the on-board electronics which assigns the specific task of optimising performance and driving pleasure to each one.
The new Alfa Romeo Giulia also features a renewed Alfa DNA which modifies the car's dynamic behaviour according to the driver's selection: Dynamic, Natural, Advanced Efficient (energy efficiency mode implemented for the first time on an Alfa Romeo) and naturally Racing (on high performance versions).
The passenger compartment of the new car offers the best in terms of quality, safety, equipment and comfort with a specific, profoundly Alfa Romeo style element: the centrality of the driver.
Not by chance, all the main controls are incorporated in the steering wheel as on a Formula 1 car, while the human-machine interface consists of two simple, user-friendly knobs for adjusting the Alfa DNA selector and the infotainment system.
The best weight-to-power ratio
To obtain an excellent weight-to-power ratio (remarkably lower than 3kg/hp), Alfa Romeo Giulia combines extraordinary engine performance and the ample use of ultralight materials throughout. For example, carbon fibre was chosen for the propeller shaft, the bonnet and the roof and aluminium was picked for the engine, brakes, suspension (including front domes and front and rear frames), in addition to many other body components, such as the doors and the wings. Furthermore, the rear crossmember is made of aluminium composite and plastic.
In order to decrease the total weight, the braking system was tweaked using aluminium elements and carbon ceramic discs and the seats have a carbon fibre structural frame. Despite all this weight optimisation, the car boasts the best torsional rigidity in its class to guarantee quality over time, acoustic comfort and handling even in conditions of extreme stress.
